About Us

Welcome to Whitby Kiln, a Paint Your Own Pottery and Art studio situated in the beautiful seaside town of Whitby, North Yorkshire. We offer a fun and relaxing space to express your creativity, regardless of ability or age, on your own or with others.

What We Offer

We carry an extensive selection of pottery (known as bisque) catering for all price ranges and occasions.

At the last count we had around 340 different types of bisque for you to choose from!

We also carry 31 different colours of underglaze paints and plenty of tools to help you create your own piece of art.

You also need never to feel stuck for ideas when you visit. We have created an inspiration station showing various techniques, all easy to perfect! Also our friendly team will always be on hand to show you some easy tips.

Just to let you know that all of our underglaze paints are non-toxic and food safe. Go on and paint your next piece of tableware, it’s so satisfying!

Don’t forget to check out our Takeout Kits and Party Pack pages for more fun stuff we offer.

Our Facilities

As you’ll see from some of our blog posts, we have completely refurbished the studio. It can now sit up to 42 people.

The studio is disabled friendly. There are also baby change facilities and a number of high chairs.

We want you to really enjoy your experience at Whitby Kiln. That’s why we’ve invested in a marvellous coffee machine and a range of soft drinks. The coffee machine even serves Hot Chocolate, mmmmm…..!

In line with our approach of supporting local businesses, our drinks are sourced locally wherever possible. This includes Baytown Coffee and Ringtons Tea

Go on, treat yourself!

Collecting Your Masterpieces

After your session, leave your masterpiece with us for glazing and firing.

Although we would love to give it back to you straight away our wonderful staff have to do quite a bit of work at this point! (Poor them!) With this in mind we advise it can take up to two weeks for collection, or three weeks for postage. Want to know why? Keep on reading!

It begins with glazing and firing your items. We group as many orders together to make sure we are friendly to the environment. Once glazed, the kilns get filled to capacity and put on. Around 36 hours later we can then take your items out and make sure they are wonderful. However, the kiln gods sometimes have other ideas and we’ll have to re-glaze and re-fire! Once that’s done, a final quality control check is completed and you’re either contacted or we’ll pop your items into the post.

To make it easy for our customers to get their masterpieces back, if you’re visiting the area we’ll take postage at the point of checkout. This is based on the size, weight and number of items you’ve painted (small boxes are £6; medium £8.50 and large are £11). However, if we do get your items out before you go we’ll be in touch and quite happily refund you the postage!

All items are sent via Royal Mail second class post and require a signature.
